CHRISTOPHER MCKENZIE

Chris McKenzie is a partner of Walkers and specialises in advising on all aspects of the BVI's law relating to trusts, wills and estates. His clients include leading law firms, trust companies, and banks throughout the world.  

He holds a law degree from Oxford University and originally practised as a solicitor in England, working for several leading City firms before moving to the BVI. He is also admitted to practise in Anguilla.
 

He was the founding chairman of the BVI branch of STEP, a position which he held from 1997 until 2003, and is now deputy chairman; he also serves as one of the two Council members of STEP Worldwide for the Caribbean region and was vice president of the BVI Bar Association from 2003 to 2007.  

Chris chaired the committee, the proposals of which led to the enactment of the Virgin Islands Special Trusts Act, 2003 (VISTA) and the Trustee (Amendment) Act, 2003.  

He is a frequent lecturer at international trust conferences and has contributed to a number of leading publications on trusts and estates including The Law of Trusts (OUP), International Succession, Trusts in Prime Jurisdictions and Disputes Involving Trusts; he is also the co-author of the British Virgin Islands chapters in International Trust Law and International Trust Precedents.
