Derek Sambrook

Prior to settling in Panama, Derek was a trust and estate practitioner in Africa, America, Europe (including the Channel Islands) and the Caribbean (including the Cayman Islands). He is a Fellow of the Institute of Bankers in South Africa and holds the institute’s diploma in trust and executor law, accounting and administration.

In 1993 he became a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners in the United Kingdom. Derek has lived in Panama since 1996 where he is the Managing Director of Trust Services, S.A., a licensed trust company established in 1981. He was appointed by the British government as the first Bank, Trust Company and Insurance Regulator in the Turks & Caicos Islands, British West Indies (1989-1992), where he established and headed the financial services authority as well as drafted trust and insurance laws, banking and insurance regulations and supporting licensing guidelines. During his tenure he was also a Member of the Latin American and Caribbean Banking Commission.

Derek writes two newsletters, Offshore Pilot Quarterly and Letter from Panama, and has been a contributing editor since 2002 for the British journal, Offshore Investment.com, in which his regular column, Latin Letter, appears.
